Where’s That Great Society?

On this day in 1965, President Johnson outlined the goals of his ”Great Society” – intended to eliminate poverty and racial injustice.

“Freedom,” he said, “is not enough.”

The Great Society was designed to bring:

  • Civil Rights
  • A War on Poverty
  • Promotion of Education
  • Health Care
  • Welfare
  • Art and Cultural Institutions
  • Infrastructure
  • Consumer Protection
  • Environmental Controls
  • Rural Development
  • Wage Increases
