Aunt Betty's Almanac, Study Break

Reasons to Be Optimistic Part I

DC Capitol Lightning

“About 85% of people struck by lightning are male, and about 80% of people in Congress are male. And hope springs eternal.”

~Aunt Betty’s Almanac

“Of the fatalities recorded, 52 percent of the female deaths occurred during daily-routine activities, while male deaths occurred during leisure activities.

“Based on the statistics for gender, the vast majority of lightning victims are male.

“Some explanations for this finding are that males are unaware of all the dangers associated with lightning and more likely to be in vulnerable situations or are unwilling to be inconvenienced by the threat of lightning.”

~Atmospheric Administration of Lightning Safety
